Sponsorship Background

The Korean Women’s International Network (KOWIN) U.S. Eastern Region consists of chapters in Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C.—creating a network of Korean American professional women. We, from the KOWIN DC Chapter, want to explore how we can succeed professionally and be of service to our communities: To explore ideas, to share collective wisdom, and to showcase our mentors who have done so and to instill civic mindedness in our young women.

KOWIN Washington DC Chapter’s mission is to focus on Networking, Mentoring the next generation of emerging leaders, and Empowering them and ourselves by working together on projects that matter to our community both here in the United States and in Korea.

In the past, some of our Chapter’s accomplishments include:

  • Hosted an Annual Mentoring Seminar for graduate students and young professional Korean-American Women since 2009. There have been over 250 attendees so far, and most of them stayed as Friends of KOWIN DC or became members of our organization.
  • Created Fellowship program that is now becoming very competitive. Fellows are provided with funding to attend the KOWIN International Convention in Korea to become familiar with KOWIN’s large networking arrangement and to meet with many internationally well-known successful women.
  • Provided role models, mentoring support, and sophisticated networks, which some young women lack in the immigrant community. Our women yearn for mentors and need confidence in building opportunities.

Our collective challenge is how we empower these women to become confident leaders in the United States and in their respective fields.
